Downtown Hightstown, Inc. Earns Nonprofit Status!
Following a rigorous three-year application process, the Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Downtown Hightstown, Inc. has been designated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity by the Internal Revenue Service, effective retroactively as of May 1, 2009. Under our new status, contributions to the organization are considered tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, so we hope you’ll lend your support! Additionally, we are now eligible to apply for grant funding for nonprofit organizations. As Memorial Day approaches, everyone looks forward to the beautiful hanging flower baskets that adorn our downtown business district. We’re close to reaching our fundraising goal of $6000, but we desperately need YOUR help to get there in time for the holiday parade! These baskets give Hightstown its distinct bloom in summer, inviting residents and visitors to stroll our lovely streets and patronize our family-owned businesses. Downtown Hightstown presents check to Hightstown Engine Company #1 for $3650
Hightstown, NJ (April 2, 2012) – On March 8th 2012, Downtown Hightstown, Inc. (DTHT) members Ryan Rosenberg and Gary Grubb presented a check to Hightstown Engine Company #1 at the fire company’s monthly meeting in the amount of $3650. This contribution was to fund the replacement of lifesaving equipment that was heavily damaged during Hurricane Irene. The monies came from a Hurricane Relief Fund that DTHT set up immediately following the storm. “As an organization,” said DTHT Chair Ryan Rosenberg, “ we asked ourselves, ‘what could we do to help?’ Immediately after the hurricane we posted all the information regarding the boil water alert on our website and sent out email blasts to our 900…

Hoops and Soccer Shoot
Hightstown Elks Lodge announces its Annual Hoop Shoot & Soccer Shoot Saturday, June 9th from 1PM till 4PM Hoop Shoot is a “free-throw” contest. Soccer Shoot is a goal/target scoring contest. Boys and Girls compete in various age brackets. Lodge Winners move on to District competition in the fall, and from there on to State and National levels where College Scholarship Prizes are available. BAND INSTRUMENT DONATION DRIVE
Do you have any band instruments taking up space in your closet/attic/basement? Would you like a tax-deductible way to help your community AND clear out some clutter at the same time? The East Windsor Regional School District is now eagerly accepting donations of working or non-working band instruments of all kinds. With financial support from local PTOs, they can be cleaned, repaired and put to great use in the hands of budding young musicians! Donated instruments can be dropped off at the main office of the Melvin H. Kreps Middle School, located at 5 Kent Lane in East Windsor. Rise to the TASK Free Community Dinner
Rise to the TASK Free Community Dinner from 4:30 to 6:00pm every Thursday. We are serving a hundred meals every week… with live music and wonderful home baked goods! Beginning on Monday, May 14th, 2012, the Hightstown Community Dinner will serve dinner every Monday night from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the Presbyterian Church, located at 320 North Main Street.
Habitat for Humanity Monthly Meeting
Our local Habitat for Humanity has two critical volunteer positions that need to be filled immediately! Event Fundraising Coordinator: As many of you know, our affiliate is awaiting additional funding before we can begin our new construction project. This position is critical to our success! Youth United Coordinator: With schools back in session, there are many youth looking to help our affiliate. In order to organize them, we require a Youth United Coordinator. If you are interested in these positions or would like more information, please send an email to volunteercoord@habitatmba.org. Please feel free to attend our board meetings on the 2nd Thursday of every month, beginning at 7:30pm at 120 South Main Street, Hightstown.

Do you have (or know) a college-bound teenager looking for community service opportunities? Greater Goods Thrift Store – now under new management – welcomes teens 16 and older to volunteer their time! Community service is an admission requirement for most colleges, and a graduation requirement for our local high schools. Greater Goods is a fun, unique place to satisfy those requirements and provide a valuable service to our community! It’s also a great way to get on-the-job training for future retail or service jobs, building on customer service and merchandising skills.
